The table below summarises the most important events in the history of Marine Farms.
Year Event
1976 The Company is incorporated (at that time called Lax AS). Until 1987 the Company is a holding company for Bjørn Myrseth’s shareholding in Stolt Sea Farm.

 

1987 The shareholding in Stolt Sea Farm is sold and the Company starts its own investments in fish farming. The activity is from the start international with investments in Greece - Galaxidi Marine Farm, 100%, UK - Lakeland Smolt, 51%, Chile - Salmones Huillinco, 25%.

 

1988 The Company changes name from Lax to Marine Farms AS.

 

1990 Marine Farms acquires 50% of the shares in the Spanish fish farming company Culmarex S.A.Lakeland Smolt acquires 50.1% of Migdale Smolt Limited.

 

1992 Marine Farms acquires Lakeland Marine Farms Limited, a salmon farming company in Scotland.

 

1993 Marine Farms acquires 100% of Lakeland Smolt Limited

 

1995/96 Marine Farms acquires Lakeland Unst Limited, a salmon farming company in Scotland. The shares in Galaxidi Marine Farm, Greece are sold. Marine Farms acquires 100% of Culmarex S.A.

 

1997 Marine Farms acquires two hatcheries from Lighthouse of Scotland and Loch Sween Salmon Ltd. trough Lakeland Smolt Limited

 

1998 The Company starts farming market size fish in cages in seawater in Chile. Marine Farms acquires 60% of the shares of Sjølaks AS, a company with one salmon farming licence in Troms, Northern Norway.Marine Farms incorporates Laksefjord Marine Farms AS, a company which applies for 3 licences in Finnmark, Northern Norway.
2000 Marine Farms raises NOK 58.4 million of new equity and starts trading on the Oslo OTC-list. Culmarex becomes 67% shareholders in Basadeamar S.L. and 20% in Piagua S.L., sea bass and sea bream farms in Altea (Spain) and Almeria (Spain), respectively.
2001 The Company acquires 60% of a smolt unit in Troms with a concession for one million smolt (from November 2003, 100% owned and operated as a division of Sjølaks AS).
2002 Construction of a hatchery in Mallorca is completed and seabream juvenile production commences.
The cod hatcheries in Norway and Scotland are completed and the Company starts juvenile production of cod.
Marine Farms acquires 40% of Seaproducts of Scotland and 100% of Hoganess Salmon. Culmarex becomes a 100% shareholder of Aquicultura Balear, a hatchery and nursery producing juveniles of sea bass and sea bream in Mallorca.The Company acquires 12.5% in Aquaculture Center of the Florida Keys (ACFK).
2003 The Company sells Marine Farms Chile SA and acquires an additional 12.5% in Aquaculture Center of the Florida Keys (ACFK).
2004 Marine Farms acquires the remaining shares in ACFK and closes down its activity in Laksefjord MF (Finmark).Marine Farms raises NOK 63 million of new equity.
2005 Lakeland acquires Unst Salmon (Shetland). Culmarex acquires Gramabasa SA (Spain). Marine Farms raises NOK 50 million of new equity.The Company divests Sjølaks AS and 50% of Grieg Marine Farms AS..
2006 In March 2006 Culmarex (Spain) enter into an agreement to acquire a neighbouring site to Gramabasa S.A., with a capacity of some 1.500 tonnes seabass/seabream (Culmarex is awaiting final approval from the Spanish authorities). Marine Farms raises NOK 89 million of new equity.Culmarex acquires the remaining 80% shareholding in Piagua (Spain) and the Lakeland Smolt Limited acquires the remaining shares in Sea products of Scotland.On the 12th of October, Marine Farms ASA was listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange.
